Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal kicks off today

Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal kicked off with lots of fun and fanfare at Hawke’s Bay Hospital today (August 4)

The appeal helps raise funds for children’s hospitals, wards and outpatient services around the country.

This is the fourth year Hawke’s Bay Hospital has been involved in the appeal, which is in its fifth year, of providing fundraising for kids in hospital.

Previously known as the Fresh Future Children’s Hospital Appeal all funds raised during the appeal period August 1 – 30 October, go towards purchasing equipment for 10 dedicated children’s hospitals, wards and outpatient services in New Zealand, including Hawke’s Bay.

Jeanette Frechtling clinical leader of the child development service said funds raised in previous years had meant the DHB had been able to buy a hearing testing machine, baby trainers to teach CPR, breast pumps as well as the installation of an observation room for the child development service.

This year’s wish list included paediatric resuscitation trolleys, oximeters to measure blood gases as well as more phototherapy systems to help manage children with jaundice, she said.

Mrs Frechtling said today’s launch was all about children with preschools & schools participating, face painting, Puff the Magic Dragon, performances and other children’s activities.

Hawke’s Bay’s rugby team was also there in support of the cause with Magpies helping with the barbecue.
