Whanganui Hospital's Critical care unit caters for critically ill, cardiac and high-dependency patients who require a highly specialised level of care.

The team provides the following types of health care, depending on patient needs:
The unit is co-located with the hospital’s Emergency Department, and Children's and Maternity wards to provide patients with a smooth transition between departments when necessary.
The unit has 6 beds and 6 telemetry units, as well as a large whānau room with kitchen facilities and a TV.
Some unit nurses are also part of our flight team, who fly angiography patients to Wellington and other patients to specialist hospitals where required.
