About the New Zealand Coding Authority (NZCA)

The NZCA is a group of clinical coding experts. They work together to resolve clinical coding queries and related issues on behalf of the clinical coding sector. This promotes the collection of consistent, complete and accurate coded data.

We will publish the NZCA meeting schedule when the NZCA function, term and members are finalised.

We will publish the NZCA terms of reference when the NZCA function, term and members are finalised.

Coding queries

You can send clinical coding queries to the NZCA for discussion.

Follow these steps before you submit a coding query.

  1. Refer to the Australian Coding Standards (ACS), published coding rules and FAQs, and New Zealand clinical coding conventions for advice and direction.
  2. Review ICD-10-AM/ACHI Alphabetical Index and Tabular List for instructions.
  3. Consult with clinicians, clinical coders and other stakeholders.
  4. Check the NZCA coding queries for any similar or related queries.
  5. Make sure the coding query is clear and supported with background information.

Email your coding query to coding_helpdesk@tewhatuora.govt.nz

We have published our responses to ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Twelfth Edition coding queries.
