Lumps and swelling in your testicles are fairly common and, in most cases, the cause is not serious. But if you have lumps, swelling or pain you should see your healthcare provider.

Prostatitis

Prostatitis is swelling (inflammation) of the prostate gland in men. The prostate sits just below the bladder and surrounds part of the urethra, the tube that carries wee (urine) from the bladder.

Testicular cancer

Testicular cancer is where cells in a testicle become abnormal and grow into a tumour. This usually starts in the cells that develop into sperm. Testicular cancer affects younger men more than older men.

Testicular infection (epididymo-orchitis)

Epididymo-orchitis is an inflammation of your testicle and the tubes attached to the testicle, which are called the epididymis. It is usually caused by an infection.

Urethritis

Urethritis is inflammation of your urethra, the tube that you pass wee (urine) through. It can cause a discharge from the tip of your penis, pain on weeing and itching. It is usually caused by a sexually transmitted infection (STI) such as chlamydia or gonorrhoea.

Vasectomy

A vasectomy is a procedure men can choose to have to make them sterile. This means they are unable to father a baby.
