About Hokitika Health Centre
Hokitika Health Centre includes a community nursing team and community mental health team. It is also the base for a range of allied health services and outpatient clinics.
After hours rural primary care service
Ka Ora Telecare provides free health advice and treatment on weeknights (5pm to 8am) and 24 hours a day on weekends and public holidays.
The Ka Ora team will refer you to the in-person service available in your area if you need it.

How to get to Hokitika Health Centre
Health shuttle
The Hato Hone St John Health Shuttle is a community service that transports people to and from medical and health related appointments.
The service is run by volunteers. A donation is greatly appreciated to help cover costs.
The shuttles operate Monday to Friday and bookings need be made by 3pm the day before your appointment.
The shuttle route covers the Greymouth/Hokitika area.

National Travel Assistance
The National Travel Assistance Scheme helps people who need to travel long distances or travel frequently for health appointments.

Note: there is no primary care (family doctor) or emergency services available on-site. If you live in the Hokitika region or are staying for a while, we encourage you to enrol with Westland Medical Centre.

- diabetes
- heart checks
- palliative care and advanced care planning (ACP)
- help to stop smoking
- lung function tests
- Well child checks
- women's health including cervical screening.
