This report explains how breast density reporting is used in breast cancer screening in New Zealand and in other countries. It looks at research on how breast density is linked to the risk of breast cancer and how health systems similar to New Zealand report this information to people having screening.

The report provides evidence to help guide future decisions about breast screening. Based on the findings, Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is looking at what would be needed to include breast density measurement and reporting in the national screening programme, BreastScreen Aotearoa, including the costs, benefits and timeframes.
