In May 2022, the Chief Executive of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora asked for a review of BreastScreen Aotearoa. An independent panel carried out the review to check that the programme is safe, provides high-quality screening, and is working as intended. The panel also looked at how fairly and effectively the programme is run and made recommendations for improvements.
