This report was produced to highlight gaps in access to palliative care and to amplify the experiences of groups who are often excluded from service design, including:

  • people experiencing homelessness
  • incarcerated people
  • rural whānau
  • gang‑affiliated whānau
  • rainbow communities
  • refugee communities
  • people with serious mental illness
  • people with learning disabilities
  • children and young people.

It was prepared by researchers, clinicians and educators from the Te Ārai Palliative Care and End of Life Research Group at the University of Auckland, with contributions from community partners and support from Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora.
