Ngā Tai Oranga service for personality disorder and PTSD
Ngā Tai Oranga provides consultation services and advice to clinicians in the lower North Island who are treating people with symptoms of personality disorder or complex post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Our service
Our multidisciplinary team provides specialist support for clinicians treating people who have:
- persistent patterns of unstable emotions
- interpersonal or relationship difficulties
- repeated self-harm behaviours
- suicidal behaviours
- other complex trauma responses.
Our services include:
- consultation and advice
- supervision, including team supervision
- second opinion assessments
- treatment options and planning, including support in developing whole of service response plans (WSRPs)
- training and supervision of mental health clinicians
- providing information on mental health and community support services
- referral and liaison with related residential treatment providers.
We also provide direct support to patients and whānau including:
- individual and group dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT)
- whānau education through the 12 week family connections programme.
What you can expect from our service
When you request a consultation with Ngā Tai Oranga, we will arrange a meeting to discuss the person in your care and consider treatment options. After this consultation we may provide:
- support in writing a treatment plan, including how to respond with consistency when the person is in crisis
- further assessment
- a therapeutic intervention.
Our service does not have a role as the lead treating team.
Consultation and referral requests
We are a regional service and can provide support to clinicians and patients in the Wellington, Wairarapa, Manawatū-Whanganui and Hawke's Bay regions.
People in Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti or the Hutt Valley must be under the care of a community mental health team.
Consultations
Request a consultation in the client digital record by completing:
- the Internal Request For Service form (IRFS)
- a brief progress note with the reason for the consultation.
Referrals for dialectical behavioural therapy
Request a referral for DBT in the single clinical portal by completing:
- the Internal Request For Service form (IRFS)
- the DBT referral form
- a brief progress note with the reason for the referral.
